Top 5 Hair Removal Techniques

Summer's coming and it’s time to pull the skirts out from the back of the wardrobe. Here’s my top 5 techniques to achieve kiss-ably smooth skin!

You can also check my Best Hair Removal for Each Body Area guide, to see which techniques I recommend for each areas.

      1.       Laser Hair Removal

Oh my gosh! Laser's a complete God send if you can afford the treatments.

Pros:
  • Closest technique to permanent you will find.
  • After one treatment, your skin looks like there was never hair there and it is very long lasting
Cons:
  • It is the most expensive method. I have a guide price list with the prices I paid to give you an idea.
  • Each area usually requires a course of 6 treatments for it to be permanent which means more money and trips to the clinic/salon.

     2.       Waxing

I personally like waxing. I have quite a high pain threshold, so I only find myself in slight discomfort. I just grit my teeth and I’m fine! J

Pros:
  • It is quick, can be done on any area of the body and usually has results for about 4 weeks.
  • You can do the treatment at home, and after regular waxing, it can become permanent since the hair follicle becomes damaged and hair no longer grows.

Cons:
  • It can be very uncomfortable if you’re quite sensitive to pain.
  • Some people find the results last for as little as 2 weeks and it can be quite costly to do each area, if it doesn't last.

     3.       Shaving

We have probably all tried shaving at some point. It’s good to keep yourself topped up during the summer and is a cheap alternative.

Pros:
  • The cheapest method of hair removal

Cons:
  • Needs to be done everyday and can often result in unsightly shaving bumps L

     4.       Plucking

I would only use plucking to supplement another technique (e.g waxing), if strands start poking through. I've tried to use this as the main technique and just got several bumps and it took a VERY long time!

Pros:

  •       Good for touching up small areas. Any more than a dozen strands and you’ll be there all night.
  •       Very clean – takes the hair right out from the root, leaving the skin silky smooth. Plucking usually lasts for about 3 days and is perfect for odd hairs and areas like eyebrows!

Cons:
  • Needs to be done everyday and can often result in unsightly shaving bumps L
  • You need to do it in good daylight, otherwise you’ll miss hairs.

     5.       Hair Removal Cream

Hair removal cream is good for areas where the hair is fine. It’s fantastic because when the hair regrows, it comes back fine and is barely noticeable.

Pros:

  • Easy for people new to hair removal, with straight forward instructions.
  • This would need to be done on average of every week and simply involves leaving the cream on the area for as little as 5 minutes.

Cons:
  • I don’t like using this for large areas such as legs, since it almost replicates the effect of shaving and the effects are not long lasting enough as the hair can start to grow back in as little as 1 day.
  • You also have to plaster your whole body in the cream and avoid it touching anything for up to 15 minutes, whilst it works it’s magic. If it touches and fabrics, it shall discolour them and it also doesn't smell very pretty!
